Connecticut Weather Forecast: 'Accumulating Snow' More Likely Now

The weekend storm track changed a bit Thursday and that's good news if you love snow and bad news if you don't.

It looks like it's actually going to happen, Connecticut is poised to see its first accumulating snow of the season. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist said new computer models Thursday show that the track has changed a bit and accumulating snow is now more likely than not.

There are still many unknowns about the potential snow, especially how much we could receive though it doesn't look to be a significant storm. One other major change is that the snow is expected to fall on Saturday afternoon and evening. Friday night is now much less of a concern. Whatever snow does fall will end by Sunday morning.

Hanrahan said on social media Thursday that "Snow now becoming likely Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. Accumulation becoming a good bet too."

"This storm is another great reminder why (we) should should use ensembles and not op runs bouncing back and forth. No surprise to wake up to a wobble back west... has always been in envelope of possible solutions."

In a blog post for NBC Connecticut, Hanrahan said, "At least right now I'd prepare for some snow on Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. More details to come..."

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist wrote, "Bright but chilly weather expected today with highs in the 40s but feeling like 30s with the wind. Quiet weather for Friday but we could see some light snow Saturday night! It will be gone for Sunday! Have a great day!"

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook in advance of the potential snow.

"There is the potential for a light accumulating snow Saturday into Saturday night. ... any slight westward shift would result in heavier accumulations at the coast, and light accumulations toward the New York City metropolitan area," the weather service says of southern Connecticut.

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service says "Accumulating snow is possible ... Saturday and Saturday night, but impacts further back across the interior can not be ruled out if the storm ends up tracking further west. While a further west track would increase the accumulating snow threat across parts of the interior MA and CT, it would bring warmer air off the ocean and may allow for more rain to mix in across the coastal plain."
