Car Stolen In Darien Crashes After Police Chase: Update

The stolen vehicle, which eventually crashed in Norwalk, was chased by Greenwich police. Two suspects were arrested, a third is at-large.

GREENWICH, CT — An 18-year-old Hartford man, and an unnamed juvenile accomplice, were arrested by Greenwich police early Friday after leading officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended up crashing in Norwalk, according to authorities. No injuries were reported, but a third suspect who was in the vehicle remains at-large.

The incident began at about 3:30 a.m. when Greenwich officers were dispatched to the Ocean View Avenue area in Byram on a report of a suspicious vehicle. When the occupants of the vehicle spotted police, they took off on I-95 toward New York, but Greenwich police did not pursue them.

About 20 minutes later, officers spotted the vehicle back in Greenwich on East Putnam Avenue near Sheephill Road and pursued it into Norwalk where it crashed; two suspects were taken into custody, and a third got away.

Police soon discovered that the vehicle had been stolen out of Darien.

"Investigation revealed that the vehicle [a silver 2016 Honda CR-V] had been stolen out of the driveway of a Fitch Avenue residence in Darien sometime during the overnight hours," wrote Darien police in a statement.

"During the pursuit, the suspects attempted to elude police by exiting the Merritt Parkway at exit 38 in Norwalk, but subsequently collided with a parked vehicle. All 3 male suspects fled the scene on foot after the collision. Two of the three suspects were apprehended a short distance from the scene. The third suspect has not been located at this time.

"Follow up investigation determined that the vehicle owner left it unlocked with the key fob inside while the vehicle was left parked overnight in the driveway of the Fitch Avenue residence.

"This is the third unlocked stolen car from Darien that had keys in it, within the last two weeks. There have also been eighteen (18) overnight car burglaries of unlocked vehicles in Darien in June of 2018."

The 18-year-old arrested was Taylin Fraiser on charges of:

  • Larceny, first degree
  • Criminal trover, second degree
  • Interfering with an officer

Fraiser was held in lieu of bail of $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 13. The identity of the juvenile was not disclosed.
