CBS Anchorwoman Dana Tyler to Emcee the ABC in Darien College Tailgate Gala, on Saturday, September 26th at Wee Burn Country Club
A Better Chance in Darien (ABC in Darien) is delighted to confirm CBS 2 News anchorwoman Dana Tyler will emcee their College Tailgate Gala on Saturday, September 26th at the Wee Burn Country Club.
Dana Tyler currently anchors CBS 2 News at 6pm, and has been weekend co-anchor and reporter for WCBS-TV since 1990. Proud to have served over 24 years at CBS 2, Tyler had accrued many awards over time, including: the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Association of Black Journalists; a New York Emmy Award for Community Service; Emmy Awards for anchoring the Breaking News stories “Flight 1549 Lands in the Hudson River” and “New York City Blackout;” Emmy Awards for anchoring Outstanding Single Newscast for CBS 2 News at 11’s “City Hall Shooting” and “New York City Subway Firebombing;” amongst numerous New York Emmy Award nominations.
In 2011, Tyler was honored by the Friars Club in its annual “Salute to News Veterans.” In 2007, she was honored in the McDonald’s annual salute to “Black Broadcast Legends” and in 2006 she received a New York Association of Black Journalists Award for her report on Broadway’s “The Color Purple.”

In addition to general assignment reporting and feature stories on Broadway and the arts, Tyler contributes as host for “CBS 2 at Tonys” and the “Tunnel to Towers Run.”
Tyler began her broadcasting career as an intern at WCOL Radio and WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. She was a general assignment reporter and anchor for WBNS and received an Ohio Valley Emmy Award in 1988 as Outstanding Anchor for her work on the popular “Heart of Ohio” broadcasts. In 1990, she and the late Reggie Harris became the first African-American anchor team in New York on WCBS-TV.

As a volunteer, Tyler served for more than a decade on the Board of Trustees of Learning Leaders, the 7,000-member volunteer organization dedicated to the education of New York City public school students. Her participation in this ABC in Darien event shows her continued support for education; the ABC in Darien mission is to provide talented young girls of color from inner cities a top notch high school education in preparation for college.
The ABC in Darien College Tailgate Gala will feature a fabulous dinner, full bar, tailgate games and an incredible live and silent auction; attendees will also be entertained with the rockin’ tunes of The Short Bus Band from Greenwich, CT, named the “2015 Best of Gold Coast Local Cover Band.” The event will be held at Wee Burn Country Club, located at 410 Hollow Tree Ridge Road in Darien, CT.
