Construction Worker Dies After Scaffolding Fall In Darien: PD

The fatality occurred Thursday morning.

DARIEN, CT — A construction worker fell about 20 feet off of scaffolding at a job site on Hollow Tree Ridge Road Thursday morning and died, according to Darien police.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 8 a.m., and the first arriving officers and POST53 EMS personnel provided medical aid to the victim and immediately transported him to Stamford Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased worker was not disclosed.

"Initial investigation shows that the victim was doing surface work to the side of a new structure being built at that location," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The victim, working approximately 20 feet from the ground, lost his footing for an unknown reason and fell to the ground.

"Detectives from the Darien Police Department and Investigators from [Occupational Safety and Health Administration] responded to the scene to investigate. As of the time of this release, the Darien Police have no reason to believe this is anything other than an unfortunate accident with no criminal element. Detectives will
continue assist O.S.H.A. investigators as they continue their evaluation of the incident."
