Darien Author To Sign New Book At Barrett Bookstore, Nov. 11

DARIEN, CT - From Barrett Bookstore: On Saturday, November 11 at 5:30 pm, Richard L. Chilton, Jr. will be at Barrett Bookstore, 314 Heights Road, Darien to speak and sign copies of his new book, “Adventures with Old Wines: A Beginner’s Guide to Being a Wine Connoisseur.”

Chilton’s love affair with wine began in 1976 when his parents converted an old bomb shelter on their property into a wine cellar. Over the next forty years, he came to understand that wine expertise involves a journey, an endless stream of vintages, unique regions, and perfect pairings with different kinds of foods. Now the co-owner of Hourglass Vineyard, an award-winning winery in Napa Valley, he shares his knowledge in his engaging guide and provides detailed information about buying and storing wine, how to read a wine
list, the role of the sommelier, how wine is really made, the impact of weather on a vintage and more. Richly illustrated, “Adventures with Old Wines” includes a full-color reference section on a select group of vineyards from all over the world, describing their history and their benchmark wines. The characteristics of these memorable wines provide the essential starting point to understand what to look for when evaluating any wine. Richard L. Chilton, Jr. resides in Darien with his family. He is the founder of Chilton Investment Company and has been a member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, a Burgundy wine society for thirty years.
