Darien Earns Opportunity to Repeat as Football Champions

The opponents for next Saturday's four state championship games were determined in semifinal matchups Sunday.

DARIEN, CT — Seeking to duplicate its state championship effort of last season, third-ranked Darien defeated No. 7 West Haven 27-13 in a Class LL semifinal matchup Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Rob Trifone's troops will play top-seeded Greenwich for the title on Saturday, Dec. 9, at a location and time to be determined. Greenwich bounced No. 4 South Windsor, 36-7.

Darien is 6-8 overall in state title games, while Greenwich is 7-7, last winning in 2007.
