Darien Historical Society Flag Exhibit Opens Thursday
"Long May She Wave: The Evolution of the Flag," opens on Thursday, January 18, and tells the story of "Old Glory."

DARIEN, CT — From the Darien Historical Society: Three cheers for the Red, White & Blue! A new exhibit at the Darien Historical Society is celebrating its unique collection of antique flags. “Long May She Wave: The Evolution of the Flag,” opens on Thursday, January 18, and tells the story of “Old Glory” and includes a timeline showing how Darien’s history is reflected in events from our nation’s past.
“Visiting this exhibit will be like taking a walk through time,” said Maggie McIntire, executive director of the Society. “Not only will you be able to see these magnificent flags from the town’s past, but also how key events happening in the United States influenced Darien’s own story,”
Spanning from pre-colonial days to the year 1960, when the 50 th star was officially added, the exhibit will feature photographs, a soundtrack with music and voices from the past, and a lecture series on subjects relating to the flag’s history. An interactive portion will challenge viewers to design a 51-star flag and also to write in a journal about a time when the flag stirred a strong emotion.
