Darien Loosens Some Restrictions At Beaches, Tennis Courts

DARIEN, CT — Town officials have loosened some restrictions at Darien's beaches, tennis courts and pickleball courts, as the town and state continue reopening efforts related to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Last month, the town began reopening beaches and parks, and also athletic fields at the schools.

Some restrictions still apply; see the announcement below for more information:

Beach Hours: Beginning Thursday June 4th, The Darien Parks & Recreation Department will be extending the closing hours of Weed Beach and Pear Tree Beach from 8 p.m. to our normal closing hours at 10 p.m. Security guards will be on from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. with the park monitors working from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Please remember to SPREAD OUT TO STOP THE SPREAD while enjoying your beaches.

Tennis Courts: may play singles and or doubles while always following the safety guidelines from the USTA.

Pickleball: may play singles only until further notice. The guidelines for double play is for players to be play with family only.

Carry – in and Carry – out trash at all parks and beaches. Please help keep our parks and beaches clean. There are dumpsters at each beach that may be used. No glass is allowed on the beaches, broken glass in the sand is very dangerous.

• It eliminates unsightly trash and receptacles in the park environment that can detract from the beauty of the natural environment.
• You reduce unsightly litter in the park environment, which can impact wildlife habitat significantly.
• Avoids the unpleasant smells and messes associated with dumpsters.
• Increases the safety of your visit by reducing the number of bees, wasps and other pests (such as skunks and rats) in the picnic areas and campgrounds.
• Improves health of wildlife by reducing their dependency on trash as a food

Dog owners: Keep your dogs leashed at all times at all parks.

Please stop leaving your dog waste and poop bags all over our parks. Our children deserve to play in poop-free parks.
