The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon.

DARIEN, CT — Crews from the Darien police and fire departments Tuesday donned cold-water diving gear to rescue a dog stranded in the middle of Five Mile River, according to a post on the police department's Twitter page.
"The dog had made its way to a small patch of grass but became stranded as the tide came in," wrote Darien police in a statement.
Crews were able to use a dingy to reach the animal and bring it to shore uninjured.
