Darien Police Officer Recognized For Assisting Ill Passenger On Plane

The officer was recognized by Darien Police Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. during a recent Police Commission meeting.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien police officer has been recognized for assisting an ill passenger on a recent flight.

At the opening of the most recent Darien Police Commission meeting, Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. read a letter he received on Feb. 4 from the passenger, who happens to be a Stamford resident. The meeting is available to watch on-demand on Darien TV79.

The man said he was on a flight to Orlando when his pulse rate suddenly dropped and he began to vomit.

"Officer Jimenez, together with a nurse on board the flight, volunteered to care for me when I became sick and the flight attendant asked for medical personnel to step up and identify themselves," the man's letter said. "While I was sick for nearly the entire flight, Officer Jimenez stayed right next to me taking my pulse, blood pressure, and getting whatever else I needed in addition to comforting both me and my family."

The man said he recovered quickly after being taken to the Emergency Room in Orlando, but that he'll "never forget the kindness and good care that was administered by Chris on this flight."

Marron said he usually doesn't read full letters or emails he receives at public meetings, but he felt the actions of Jimenez were "pretty special."

"I'm not surprised by Chris' actions," Marron added. "It shows what we expect from our officers, that we not only protect people within the borders of Darien, but also beyond."

The letter will go into Jimenez's file, according to Marron.
