Darien Resident Recalls Heroin Overdose Rescues

Narcan administered by firefighters saved the young man's life twice.

DARIEN, CT - A Darien resident recalled how emergency responders rescued him from an otherwise fatal heroin overdose.

The resident identifed as “Mark” by the Darien Times shared his story through the use of an alias. He is in his 20’s.

Mark was treated with Narcan after overdosing at a friend’s house in bed. He woke up to find 20 firefighters around him. Narcan is an opoid antagonist that can reverse the effects of some overdoses.

Mark would overdose again after arriving home from rehab. Again Narcan saved his life.
