DARIEN, CT — Four Darien High School students have completed spring internships at SoundWaters, the region’s leader in climate science education.

Caoilainn Bischoff, Gaurav Parwal, Ryan Sarsen and Leyton Tucci have spent five weeks at the organization’s Coastal Education Center at Cove Island Park in Stamford. The Darien contingent was part of a larger group of spring interns from several area high schools who, instead of attending classes for the final weeks of their high school careers, did internships to experience a real-world business environment.

At SoundWaters, the DHS interns worked every day alongside and under the guidance of SoundWatersprofessional educators, teaching the science of Long Island Sound to more than 2,000 pre-school, elementary and middle school students from schools across the region. They helped students in classroom and lab settings, as well as on the beach and in boats on Holly Pond where young students do field work.

“I really enjoyed this internship and helping other students. SoundWaters is a great organization and I have learned a lot about Long Island Sound and how a nonprofit works,” said Gaurav Parwal in a news release. Parwal will be attending Wake Forest University in the fall.

The SoundWaters High School Internship Program is a model for professional development and environmental stewardship.
