Darien Suspect Tracked Down After Ditching Cop At Motor Vehicle Stop: New Canaan PD

Lesson learned, don't run from the law.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 40-year-old Norwalk man, already in trouble with the law in both Norwalk and Darien, hit an alleged criminal trifecta, of sorts, when New Canaan police last week arrested him on a warrant for ditching an officer during a traffic stop in January.

Terrance L. Parker, who lists both County Street and Jefferson Street addresses, was arrested on charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while on suspension; disobeying the signal of a officer; and reckless driving.

The incident in question occurred on Weed Street in New Canaan at about 10:30 p.m. on January 5. Parker failed to dim his highbeam headlights as he passed an officer on patrol.

"The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop of the stated vehicle that was being operated by Parker on [nearby] Ash Tree Lane," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "As the officer exited his patrol vehicle to approach the stopped vehicle, the stopped vehicle then drove away from the officer."

New Canaan police were able to get the license plate of the vehicle from surveillance equipment in the patrol car, which led to police identifying Parker and obtaining a warrant for his arrest.

Parker was charged on July 21 at Norwalk Superior Court, where he was being held on the separate Norwalk charges. A New Canaan police spokesperson confirmed to Patch that the Parker who the department arrested is the same person arrested earlier this month in both Norwalk and Darien.

He was held in lieu of a $15,000 bond and is due back in court at a later date.
