Darien Teacher Arrested, Charged With Risk Of Injury To A Child: Police

Darien police said they were contacted by school administration who reported "inappropriate conduct" by a teacher.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien High School math teacher was arrested on Jan. 30 and charged in connection with an incident involving a student that was reported to police last fall, according to an arrest report.

Sean Boardman, 59, of Westbrook, surrendered to Darien police at headquarters last week on a warrant that charges him with risk of injury to a child, his arrest report states.

On Nov. 21, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m., Darien police were contacted by DHS administration who reported "inappropriate conduct" by a teacher, later identified as Boardman, the arrest report says.

"The incident allegedly occurred earlier that morning during a pre-school math review session involving Boardman and a student," police wrote in the arrest report. "Following an investigation by Darien detectives, an arrest warrant was issued for Boardman."

Police said due to the "sensitive nature" of the case and the involvement of a minor, no further details will be released at this time.

"On November 21, 2025, a serious concern involving one of our DHS teachers was brought to the attention of our administration," Superintendent of Darien Public Schools Dr. Eric Byrne wrote in an emailed statement to Patch Tuesday. "We immediately took action, reported the concern to the appropriate authorities, and placed the teacher on leave pending an investigation."

Boardman, who has been employed by DPS for four years, remains on leave at this time.

"Given that this matter involves a student and is an active case, I cannot offer further comment," Byrne said.
