Day Tripper: Take a Walk at Weir
As summer winds down and trees start to turn, there are few places more perfect for a stroll than the state's only National Historical Site, situated right here in Fairfield County.
Sometimes it's easy to take for granted what's right in your backyard. Perhaps that's the case with Weir Farm, but it certainly shouldn't be.
Weir is Connecticut's lone National Historic Site and the country's only National Park Service location dedicated to American painting. Those are pretty good claims to fame for a fairly small property nestled away atop a Fairfield County hillock.
Located on Nod Hill Road straddling the Wilton and Ridgefield border, Weir's visitor center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May through October, and Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the winter months.

Aside from the pristine gardens, abundant foliage and the ever-present wildlife, Weir also offers a nearby pond and a brand new, private artists studio.
