Details Announced For Darien High School Theatre 308's Upcoming Production

The show will bring a thrilling, high-energy production packed with magic, adventure and humor, Darien Public Schools says.

DARIEN, CT — Students in Theatre 308 at Darien High School will present "The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical" this March, bringing the stage adaptation of Rick Riordan’s popular novel to the school’s auditorium.

The two-act musical is based on the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. The story follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who learns he is a demigod, the son of a Greek god. After Zeus’ lightning bolt is stolen and Percy is accused of the crime, he embarks on a quest with his friends Annabeth and Grover to recover it and prevent a war among the gods.

The production traces Percy’s journey from New York City to Mount Olympus and features a rock-influenced score, choreography and action sequences. The show is directed by Tim Sorensen.

"'The Lightning Thief' is the perfect show for high school students. The rock album score is vocally challenging, the uptempo numbers provide lots of opportunity for choreography, and the story itself provides for challenging and creative technical highlights. I’m so proud of the work that all of our students have put into this production, and I can’t wait for our entire community to see it!" Sorensen said in a news release from Darien Public Schools.

"The Lightning Thief" premiered off-Broadway in 2017, earning three Drama Desk Award nominations, before moving to Broadway for a 16-week limited engagement at the Longacre Theatre from October 2019 to January 2020.
