DUI Driver Tried to Pay for Gas Using Car Keys, Thought He Was in New Jersey: Darien Police

The man reportedly entered the gas station at a high rate of speed with a front tire shredded that had been rolling on its rim.

DARIEN, CT — A New Jersey man faces a DUI charge after police say he tried to pay for gas using his car keys and thought that he was in New Jersey, according to the Darienite.com.

The Darienite reports the 39-year-old driver entered the Noroton Citgo at 1927 Post Road at a high rate of speed with a front tire shredded that had been rolling on its rim at about 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 20.

The man, who failed field sobriety tests and breath tests later showed he had a blood-alcohol content level of 0.1829 at police headquarters, told police that he was on his way home and was surprised when officers told him that he was in Connecticut, according to the Darienite.
