'Experience Country School' through New Parent-and-Child Series

Parents of toddlers (2/3) and preKindergarteners (4/5) are invited to “Experience Country School” through unique, complimentary 45-minute parent-and-child visits guided by the New Canaan Country School Early Childhood faculty. Parents can register for one session or all three in the series.

These parent-and-child visits take place in the school’s new Exploratory Lab on the school’s campus at 635 Frogtown Road, New Canaan.

The following series is being offered for parents and toddlers:

October 16, 10:15-11 a.m.: Experience Color

One of the first means children use to organize their world is the recognition and naming of color. We will tap into that inherent curiosity and creativity as you and your children create your own shades and hues by mixing with fingers and brushes.

Nov. 18, 10:15-11 a.m.: Experience Clay

An awakening for the senses… What does the clay feel like? What does it smell like? What color do you see? What does it sound like as it moves between the fingers? Get ready to explore this medium holistically.

April 2, 10:15-11 a.m.: Experience Sound and Movement

How can we use our bodies or simple instruments to create sounds? How do these sounds motivate us to move our bodies? How do the lyrical lines of a story inspire song, movement and literacy? Join us as we celebrate the joy and connective power of music and movement.

The following series is being offered for parents and PreKindergarteners:

Oct. 15, 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Experience Science and Art

Children and parents will engage in group activities designed to experiment with weight and balance. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to work independently, using a variety of recycled materials, designing and building your own structures as a means to further understand the idea of balance.

Nov. 19, 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Experience Math and Music

Musical elements such as a steady beat, rhythm, melody, and tempo possess the inherent math principals of sequencing, counting, and patterning. Join us as we explore these concepts through hands-on and engaging activities together.

April 15, 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Experience Science and Literacy

Following a story about wind, children and parents will engage in a group activity experiencing the force of air moving through a wind tunnel. You will experiment with different materials and through play learn about the concepts of lift, drag, velocity and force.
