Great Island Parking Design Committee To Hold First Public Meeting
Here's a preview of the upcoming meeting for the Great Island Parking Design Committee.

DARIEN, CT — The Great Island Parking Design Committee is scheduled to receive a project overview and begin a design-focused discussion on access and infrastructure at Great Island during a special meeting this week.
The committee will meet Wednesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 206 at Town Hall. The meeting is scheduled to be held in person, and a public comment period is listed on the agenda.
According to the approved mission, the committee is tasked with providing updates to town officials and the public, flagging any potential cost increases or scope changes, and ultimately advising the Board of Selectmen as the access project advances toward final design, permitting and potential bidding.

An item on the agenda is an introduction and presentation by Reed Hilderbrand, which is expected to outline the project’s goals, principles and timeline. The committee is also expected to engage in a design conversation covering existing site conditions, circulation planning and infrastructure elements.
Discussion topics are set to include circulation at the northern causeway and boardwalk, as well as vehicular access, parking and pedestrian movement throughout the site.

Additional elements slated for review include stormwater management, paving materials and visitor safety measures such as gates, fencing and barriers. The presentation is also expected to address next steps in the planning process.
Earlier in the meeting, the committee is scheduled to hold public comment, followed by member introductions and a possible vote to select a chair, vice chair and secretary. Members may also receive an update on the 23A access road project as listed on the agenda.
Members of the public may attend in person and speak for up to three minutes during the designated public comment period.
