Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Connecticut

Connecticut may experience some stormy weather today and there is a chance for another storm to impact parts of the state this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for all of Connecticut for today and there is some concern about a potentially heavy rainstorm that could impact areas of southern Connecticut Friday night into Saturday. Areas of northern Connecticut are less likely to see significant rain on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service said for southern Connecticut today, “A few thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight could produce locally damaging winds.”

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service says, “There is a risk for showers and thunderstorms which may produce heavy rainfall today and this evening.”

And then for Friday night into Saturday, southern Connecticut may be impacted by a heavy rainstorm, but it’s far from guaranteed. “Low pressure passing to the south late Friday night into Saturday will produce heavy rain north of its track. The heaviest rain will likely remain to the south, but any northward change in the expected track could result in rainfall capable of causing flooding,” the weather service states.

Hartford and Tolland counties only have a 40 percent chance of rain showers on Saturday though it’s expected to be cloudy during the day.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote late Wednesday that, “So far, models continue to keep a big band of heavy rain just south Friday night/Saturday morning. Close call but I'm thinking we miss most of it!”
