How To Donate To Person To Person’s 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive

DARIEN, CT — Person to Person (P2P), the Darien-based organization dedicated to assisting individuals and families in lower Fairfield County, has announced details for its "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, the largest fundraiser of the year for the nonprofit.

The food drive is being held in partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and supported by sponsors Cuisinart and Conair, and will take place on Saturday, May 11.

On that day, residents in Darien, Norwalk, Stamford, and Wilton are encouraged to fill grocery bags with healthy, non-perishable, non-expired food donations for collection.

This collaborative effort between all three P2P food pantries and local post offices makes it easy for residents of lower Fairfield County to help restock the P2P pantries.

Nancy Coughlin, CEO of Person to Person, highlighted the importance of the drive.

P2P noted in a news release that food insecurity continues to be a significant challenge in Connecticut, affecting approximately 13 percent of residents who struggle to access sufficient and nutritious food. This includes over 115,000 children who face hunger daily.

"The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is a key event that helps us keep our shelves stocked and meet the urgent needs of our neighbors," Coughlin said in a news release.

Dominick Frattaroli, vice President of Branch 60 at NALC, expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing partnership with P2P.

"Working with P2P really shows what we can accomplish when we all pull together. It’s about neighbors helping neighbors, and I love seeing the community support in action," said Frattaroli in a news release.

Over the past year, P2P has distributed enough healthy groceries to provide nearly 2.7 million meals through its food pantries in Stamford, Norwalk, and Darien, and through its Door2Door home delivery program—a 14 percent increase over the previous year, P2P said.

How To Donate On May 11

Over 70,000 grocery bags will be distributed to the postal carriers who will deliver them to residents, encouraging them to fill the bags with groceries for collection on May 11. If you don't receive a bag, simply use any grocery bag.

Here's how to donate in your respective community on May 11:

Darien: Leave your food donations by your mailbox by 9 a.m. Your letter carrier and food drive volunteers will pick up and deliver your donation to P2P; or, drop off your food donation to P2P Darien, 1864 Post Road, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Norwalk: Leave your food donations by your mailbox by 9 a.m. Your letter carrier and food drive volunteers will pick up and deliver your donation to P2P; or, drop off your food donation at the P2P collection site at the South Norwalk Community Center, 98 South Main St., from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Stamford: Leave your food donations by your mailbox by 9 a.m. Your letter carrier will make a pick up. Donations will benefit the 90 member agencies of The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, of which P2P is one.

Wilton: Leave your food donations by your mailbox by 9 a.m. Your letter carrier and food drive volunteers will pick up and deliver your donation to P2P; or, drop off your food donation to P2P at the Wilton Post Office, 15 Hubbard Road.
