Hypothetically, just let us say that there is a diabetic in distress in Noroton Heights. CMED dispatches Post 53 which gets there within minutes. Because of the nature of the emergency, CMED also dispatches SEMS. Unfortunately, especially for the patient, the Glenbrook SEMS unit is out on a call. Therefore, a SEMS unit from Stamford Hospital responds but gets stuck in traffic on I95. The Posties cannot wait for SEMS so they put the patient into the Post ambulance without paramedics and head for Norwalk Hospital where the patient has asked to be taken. Of course, something like this could never happen. But if it did, who would do the review? Why a doctor from Stamford Hospital who is also the medical director of Post and SEMS. The patient would probably never know what happened and would just be grateful someone came to help. And what is there really to get upset about. There is always marching in the Memorial Day Parade and the food fair to follow. I almost forgot about the awards for being great volunteers. Hypothetically, of course. Stay tuned. Walter Casey.
