DARIEN, CT — Mailboxes in town were entered and mail was reported stolen by a resident over the weekend, according to police.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Dan Skoumbros said a Hoyt Street resident told officers Sunday his mail was found along the road by a passerby, who returned it to him. The resident was expecting checks in the mail and believes they were stolen, Skoumbros said.

Earlier that day, officers received a report of a suspicious dark-colored BMW slowly driving near mailboxes on Hecker Avenue. Officers responded to the area of Hecker and Fitch avenues and found mail belonging to several nearby residences strewn about, Skoumbros said.
