Man Accused Of Stealing $25K Worth Of Jewelry In Darien Arrested: PD
Police said they arrested and charged a 29-year-old man on July 15.

DARIEN, CT — A 29-year-old man accused of breaking into a woman's apartment and stealing $25,000 worth of jewelry in 2023 was arrested on July 15, according to the Darien Police Department.
Carlos Buitrago-Pinzon, of Queens, N.Y., was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy, a crime summary from the DPD said.
On Nov. 11, 2023, officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 800 block of the Post Road where a woman told police her apartment had been forcibly entered and $25,000 worth of jewelry was taken, police said.

Buitrago-Pinzon was arrested later the same day in Mount Pleasant, N.Y. where he was in possession of stolen items, including a gold charm bracelet engraved with the victim's name, police said.
Police noted they were able to link to the theft to Buitrago-Pinzon, and they applied for an arrest warrant. He was picked up at the Westchester County Detention Center on July 15.

Buitrago-Pinzon was also arrested and formally charged by the Greenwich Police Department last week while he appeared in Stamford Superior Court.
Police say Buitrago-Pinzon broke into two apartments in the Byram section of Greenwich, also on Nov. 11, 2023. Nothing was reported stolen, and one of the apartments was vacant at the time, police said.
Bonds for the Darien and Greenwich charges were set at $100,000 each. Buitrago-Pinzon remained in custody as of Wednesday morning, the CT Judicial Branch website says.
