Man Led Darien Police on Chase

He screamed that he hated cops as he was being arrested by Stamford Police.

STAMFORD, CT — Police arrested a West Haven man after he engaged police in a pursuit, vandalized a police vehicle and fought with officers, according to police.

Darien Police pursued a vehicle to the Stamford town line around 10:45 a.m. on March 5.

Stamford Police canvassed for the vehicle. During the search a man was found bent over keying a Stamford patrol vehicle on Hoyt Street. A police lieutenant chased the man and tackled him near Stamford Police headquarters.

He struggled with police, but was taken into custody. During his struggle he said that he hated cops, according to police. His vehicle was spotted blocking the Hoyt Street entrance to police headquarters .

During a search police found he had a large hunting knife in his vehicle.

Surveillance video showed him vandalizing two patrol vehicles.

Nicholas Tartell, 62, was charged with interfering with police, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and weapon in a motor vehicle. Darien Police also issued a summons for engaging police in a pursuit and reckless operation.
