Narcan Used for Darien Heroin Overdose Victim

Plus town property stolen and wire fraud reported. Darien Police briefs.

Wire Fraud

A Darien company reported that it had become the victim of a wire fraud scam.

Someone was able to access the email account of Kelly Associate’s president. The person emailed a secretary instructing her to transfer $24,000 by wire to a person in Anderson, SC on Nov. 19. The secretary completed the transaction.

On Nov. 23 the president’s email account was used to order the secretary to make a $24,600 wire transfer to Glendale, Ariz. and a $52,900 transfer to Port St. Lucie, Fla. The secretary got suspicious and didn’t perform the transaction.

It was later learned the president’s email account was hacked, police said.

Town Property Stolen

A Darien Parks and Recreation backpack leaf blower was reported stolen from Mather fields Park.

The bower was left unattended for about 30 minutes on Nov. 19. It was reported to police on Nov. 25. The serial number of the Redmaxx 8500 blower was unknown.

It is valued at $600.

Non-Fatal Heroin Overdose

A Darien resident had a non-fatal heroin overdose on Nov. 23.

Police and other emergency responders were dispatched to the victim’s residence. The 20-year-old male was found by a family member.

Narcan was used and the victim was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
