New Watches, Advisories Issued For Connecticut In Advance Of Tuesday's Significant Storm

The National Weather Service has issued new advisories and watches for Connecticut. Here's the new details.

New advisories and watches have been issued for Connecticut in advance of a significant storm that will move through the state beginning Tuesday and it won't exit until Wednesday evening. The worst of the weather will be Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts could exceed 50 mph and two to three inches of rain statewide is expected during the slow moving storm.

On Monday night, the National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for the entire Interstate 95 corridor along the Shoreline from Greenwich to New London. Northern sections of Middlesex and New London counties are also under a Wind Advisory.

The National Weather Service says to expect 20-30 mph winds and gusts up to 50 mph. Winds will begin to intensify Tuesday morning and continue throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

The weather service said Hartford and Tolland counties are also under a Wind Advisory, with sustained gusts between 10-25 mph and some gusts up to 50 mph. The wind in northern Connecticut picks up Tuesday afternoon and lasts into Wednesday. Hartford County is also under a Flash Flood Watch beginning Tuesday evening and continuing through Wednesday morning.

"High rainfall rates, combined with a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain could lead to localized flash flooding at some of the faster responding streams and rivers. Some localized urban flooding is also possible," the Weather Service states.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said, "Heavy rain moves in later tomorrow. 1.5-3.0" likely - but localized totals could be more!"

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist said, "NWS issues a Wind Advisory for most of CT + Flash Flood Watch for Hartford Litchfield counties."

Here is the detailed look at the forecast for southern Connecticut via the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Areas of drizzle before midnight, then a chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog before midnight. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind 13 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 72. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 64. Breezy, with a south wind 18 to 23 mph decreasing to 11 to 16 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and two inches possible.

Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 9am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 68. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest after midnight.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 62. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Patchy fog before 1pm, then patchy fog after 5pm. High near 72. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog before 8pm. Low around 59. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday: Rain, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog before noon. High near 69. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain before midnight, then a slight chance of showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
