Police: Play Wrestling Leads to Domestic Assault in Darien

A woman claimed that play wrestling quickly escalated into her boyfriend punching her repeatedly in the face.

A man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and didn’t comply with police.

Police arrived to a Maple Street address for a reported domestic in progress on May 23 around 11:20 p.m.

A man, later identified as Anthony Knox, 25 of Hamden was standing in the front yard and was ordered to show his hands and get on the ground, police said.

He didn’t comply with either ordered and was subdued and handcuffed.

The victim told police she is a live-in nurse that takes care of the resident, but the resident wasn’t home at the time of the incident.

The victim, who had fresh injuries on her face said that she and Knox were play wrestling when he started shouting obscenities and grabbed her wrists, according to police.

The incident escalated and he allegedly pushed her against a wall and repeatedly punched her in the face. She attempted to leave the residence, but Knox allegedly pulled her by her hair.

She eventually was able to call 911 from within the residence.

Knox was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and interfering with police. He was originally given a $5,000 bond that was reduced to a promise to appear.
