Recent Death Notices From Darien: June 14 To July 13, 2026

DARIEN, CT — Here are the recent death notices from Darien.

John Wolcott, 82, died July 13, 2026, and was a University of California, Berkeley MBA graduate, CPA and financial executive who served as a U.S. Army captain in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star, held leadership roles with the Darien Men's Association, the Darien Board of Finance and local country clubs, was named grand marshal of Darien's 2022 Memorial Day parade, and enjoyed skiing, travel, music and history.

Arthur Charles Mehos, 64, died July 9, 2026, and was a graduate of The Lawrenceville School and Boston University who taught history and coached football, basketball and baseball at Avon Old Farms School, and was a devoted fan of the New York Mets.

Mercedes “Chet” Saur, 80, died July 2, 2026, and was a biology graduate of College of Saint Elizabeth, an artist active in the local art community for more than four decades, a more than 20-year member of the Darien Representative Town Meeting, and a longtime volunteer and religious educator at St. Thomas More Parish and St. Mary's Parish who was active at St. Mary's Church.

Angelo Anthony Toscano ("Toad"), 91, died June 30, 2026, and was a Darien High School graduate who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, spent 43 years in law enforcement as a captain with the Darien Police Department and later chief of the Wilton Police Department, graduated from the FBI National Academy, founded Darien Police Explorer Post 911, and volunteered with Darien Little League and Darien Babe Ruth Baseball.

Richard "Coot" Coutermash, 68, died June 21, 2026, and owned and operated Coutermash Construction, where he was known for landscape design and homebuilding, and enjoyed skiing as a member of the Okemo Mountain Ski Patrol, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, bow hunting, photography, boating, water skiing and volunteering with the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Phyllis Ann Webb McCormick, 102, died June 14, 2026, and was a Finch College graduate who worked for Bergdorf Goodman, Bonwit Teller, Mademoiselle and Harper's Bazaar, volunteered during World War II, championed environmental conservation and civic causes, served as a Darien Library trustee and Garden Club of Darien member, and helped found New York City's Inner-City Scholarship Fund.
