Road Reopens In Darien After Downed Tree With Wires: Update
A major winter storm battered the region Sunday into Monday, with heavy snow and strong wind gusts.
Update, Tuesday, 8:45 a.m.: Hoyt Street has reopened
DARIEN, CT — Hoyt Street in Darien is closed in both directions Monday morning between Miller Road and Briar Brae Road due to a downed tree with wires, according to the CT Department of Transportation.
The closure was reported around 5 a.m. Darien police are reminding residents to avoid travel to allow Department of Public Works crews to clear the roads.

Gov. Ned Lamont declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon, though power outages in Darien have remained at a minimum. As of 11 a.m. on Monday, 32 out of 8,330 customers in Darien were without power, according to Eversource.
Statewide, more than 15,000 were without power on Monday.

The National Weather Service says the warning for southern Connecticut lasts until 6 p.m. Monday, with additional snow accumulations of between 9 and 12 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, the snowfall will taper off between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by cloudy and windy conditions tonight.
