Seascape Oil Paintings Featured At Geary Gallery In Darien
From now through the end of June, Geary Gallery in Darien is featuring seascape oil paintings from award-winning artist Sue Barrasi.
DARIEN, CT — With summer all but here, residents are thinking about long days at the beach. A local artist is hoping to bring that feeling of being by the sea right into people's homes.
"Ocean View," a series of oil paintings by award winning oil painter Sue Barrasi, is on exhibit at Geary Gallery in Darien from now through the end of the month.
Barrasi, who is based in Rockland County, N.Y., has painted seascapes for 40 years. She has been awarded numerous ribbons for her work, as well as grants and residencies, and maintains active membership in the Oil Painters of America, the Salmagundi Club, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters of America, the American Artist Professional League and is a lifetime member of the Art Students League.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years, Barrasi found herself going to the ocean more. She put aside deadlines and commissions, and needed a place to go to unwind. She decided to put together a show with her seascapes, and Tom and Anne Geary, proprieters of Geary Gallery, welcomed her work.
"For me, I'm very at ease with the ocean. I always feel like it makes me breathe, and it soothes my soul. I love painting, so to marry the two together, and if I can bring the feeling it gives me into people's homes, that feeling of calmness and serenity, then that's wonderful," Barrasi said. "I think people want to surround themselves with things that put them at ease and peace."

The seascapes feature scenes of the water from Maine all the way down to Florida, and there are about 13 pieces of various sizes on display at Geary Gallery.
"The ocean to me is always different, it's always changing. I'll go there in the snow," Barrasi said. "Whenever there's a window to run out to the ocean, I'm there."
Geary Gallery is located at 576 Boston Post Road, and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
