Storm Closes DMV on Saturday Along with Many Events: Continual Updates
This article will be updated. The state Department of Motor Vehicles won't open Saturday; many events across the state are closing, too.

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles has announced it won’t open its doors on Saturday due to the snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain that’s expected to fall, and many events scheduled for Saturday are also being cancelled.

Among the closings:
- SAT tests at numerous high schools around Connecticut (see below)
- New Canaan Country School’s Culture and Collaboration Day has been postponed to Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.
- Darien Arts Center stage auditions for On Golden Pond are cancelled for Saturday, Jan. 24 due to weather. Please come to the DAC Visual Arts Studio on Sunday, January 25th between Noon and 3PM to audition. Contact Director, Patrick Kiley at patrickbk888@hotmail.com for questions.
- All Darien Public Schools events for Saturday have been cancelled, the school district announced on its Home page.
- All New Canaan Public Schools activities are cancelled. Here’s the announcement, from the district’s website: “Given the forecast for tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, we’re going to cancel all school activities for Saturday. The only unknown, at this point, is the hockey game scheduled to be held in Darien at 6:00 p.m. We will make that decision by noon Saturday; otherwise, all NCPS activities and buildings will be closed for the day on January 24, due to the storm.”
- Darien YMCA: “Due to the impending weather forecast, the Darien Public School district has closed all school facilities for Saturday, January 24th. As a result, YMCA Pee Wee Hoops, House Basketball, and home Travel Basketball is canceled. All away games will be decided by the hosting town. Darien YMCA Men’s League is on as scheduled. The YMCA will be open for normal operating hours. For more information please contact the front desk.”
- Darien Library will open an hour late on Saturday, at 10 a.m.
- Darien Town Hall and Mather Community Center will both be closed Saturday, according to an announcement on the town government website’s Home page.
- Westport-Weston Family Y, if it cancels anything, will announce it on its Facebook timeline: “We’re keeping an eye on the weather forecast for tomorrow, and will keep you posted on if and how the coming storm affects our YMCA’s hours and operations.”
- Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk, if it cancels anything, will announce it through its Twitter account, the museum tweeted: “We may ALL be in the #SnowGlobe on Saturday! Please stay tuned for updates on Museum status.”
- Norwalk Community College will be closed, according to WFSB-TV’s website.

As of 5:40 p.m., Friday, the closures are at: Darien, Greenwich, Trumbull, Bridgeport, Milford, Danbury, Ansonia, Naugatuck, Dayville, East Haven, Groton, Woodstock, Willimantic, Meriden
Weston Public Schools has announced that Saturday SAT tests are cancelled there and that students will be able to take them Feb. 7.
DMV offices
Here’s an announcement made Friday afternoon by the DMV:
All Department of Motor Vehicles offices WILL BE CLOSED SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2015, due to expected poor weather conditions from snow and ice. Offices will re-open on their next regular next business day, which is Tuesday, at 7:45 a.m.
Anyone with scheduled road skills test or learner’s permit test appointments can call DMV to select new dates. The numbers are 860-263-5700 within the Hartford area and those outside the Hartford area can call toll-free at 800-842-8222. DMV will also be contacting customers with appointments.
As a reminder, AAA offices process driver’s license and ID card renewals. Please check with individual offices on whether they are open if weather conditions are poor. A full list of AAA offices can be found atct.gov/dmv/offices
