Toys R' Us To Liquidate Inventory At Connecticut Stores

Information on the fate of Toys R' Us is trickling out now that the company has filed for bankruptcy. Gift cards are redeemable into April.

Toys R' Us is liquidating its operations, and many stores in Connecticut and elsewhere have already begun closing sales. Here are some of the most pressing questions regarding the liquidation process following the company's announcement last week that it would sell or close all of its U.S. and U.K. stores.

When Will Toys R' Us Closing Sales Begin?

While a number of stores have already announced their plans, store closures and liquidation sales timelines at many Toys R' Us stores in Connecticut are still being determined. Patch reached out to Northeast regional spokesperson Meghan Sowa for comment but did not hear back by press time. There was a bankruptcy hearing scheduled for Tuesday where the Wayne, NJ-based company was slated to get approval to begin holding discounts and putting up "Store Closing Sale" signs, CNN.com reported.

"We expect the store closing sales to begin very soon, and our team members are standing by to help you take advantage of the deep discounts that will be available during the liquidation process," the company wrote in a statement.

Connecticut has seven remaining Toys R' Us locations in Manchester, Milford, Danbury, Norwalk, Waterford, West Hartford, and Waterbury (the closure of locations in North Haven and Newington were announced in February, though both are still open - as of March 21 - and are not expected to close until mid-April, according to personnel at both stores).

Customers should call their local store to find out if a liquidation sale has begun. Information also can be found on the Toys R' Us corporate website.

Can I return something I recently purchased?

Items bought at a store before its liquidation sale begins may be returned to any open store. Once a store has a liquidation sale, returns will not be accepted.

It is not clear whether items purchased in stores can be returned through the Toys R Us website after stores are shuttered.

What about my gift cards and coupons?

Endless earnings will be honored until Wednesday. Gift cards are redeemable through April 12.

What will happen to my Babies R Us gift registry?

Baby registries will remain up and available for the next few weeks, according to the company.
