'No Criminal Act Occurred' In Untimely Death Of Darien Man: Update

Darien Police Chief Ray Osborne has released a statement about the incident, which occurred Monday afternoon on Mansfield Avenue.

DARIEN, CT — A 51-year-old Darien man died unexpectedly Monday at his Mansfield Avenue home, prompting an "untimely death" investigation by Darien Police.

According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon by Police Chief Ray Osborne, the investigation began just after 5 p.m. on Monday.

"The victim was a 51 year old male resident of the home," wrote Osborne. "An investigation has been conducted and it has been determined that no criminal act occurred. No additional investigation is anticipated and no further information will be released at this time."

Earlier on Tuesday, Detective James Palmieri initially confirmed to Patch in an email that the department had launched an "untimely death" investigation at the residence on Monday afternoon.

Specific details surrounding the Monday afternoon incident in the 200 block of Mansfield Avenue were not disclosed nor was the identity of the victim. But Palmieri wrote that "there is no reason to believe" that the general public was in danger at this time.

Darien town records list the owners of the home as Robert E. Johnson and Barbara L. Johnson. The home is valued at $1,167,700.

"Darien Police conducted an investigation at [the 200 block of] Mansfield Avenue involving an untimely death," wrote Palmieri. "Darien officers were on scene to thoroughly investigate the circumstances and at this time there is no reason to believe there is any danger to the general public. There will be no additional information released at this time per the Chief of Police."

The home is located near Buttonwood Lane and the Country Club of Darien.
