YWCA Darien/Norwalk to Offer Microsoft Classes as Part of Job Search Support Program

Microsoft Learning Series Begins in January

Registration is now available for Session 2 of computer classes at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk. Women can learn or improve skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher as part of the YW’s Job Search Support Program.

Classes are open to all women and are taught in the YW Computer Center with exercises that provide practical applications in the workplace.

Participants can take Basic Word on January 27, February 3 and 10, Basic Excel on February 24, March 3 and 10, and continue with Intermediate Word on March 17 and 24, and Intermediate Excel on March 31 and April 7. Powerpoint class will take place on February 12 and Publisher is taught on February 26. Morning or evening classes are available from 10 a.m. to noon or from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes require registering with program coordinator Kate Foster at katef@ywcadariennorwalk.org or by calling (203) 655-2535.

A keyboarding/typing class is also available on Tuesdays or Thursdays by appointment. Those taking a class at the YW can additionally use the Computer Center to practice their skills by scheduling time during office hours.

The YW’s Job Search Support program has benefited more than 2,200 women over the years. JSS offers assistance in all aspects of the job search process including improving Microsoft Office skills, creating or updating resumes, interview preparation, navigating websites, or consulting about the process of finding work. The program includes a free 1/2-hour consultation.

All services are provided at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk at 49 Old King’s Highway North in Darien.

Financial assistance is available to anyone demonstrating a need; many complimentary services have been provided through the ‘Open Door’ program for homeless women.
