Oddfellows Playhouse

Oddfellows Playhouse is a long-standing youth performing arts organization located at 128 Washington Street in Middletown, Connecticut. Established in 1975, this registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit is dedicated to fostering creativity and personal growth in young people through high-quality theater and circus arts. The playhouse serves as a vibrant community hub, offering a wide range of educational programs for children and teens. Middletown's 20s/30s Young Adult Group Gathering. The annual New England Chamber Choir Christmas Concert will be held at St. Colman on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 4:00 pm. A reception will follow in the church hall, sponsored by the St. Colman Care &amp; Share committee. The Notre Dame/St. Colman 20s/30s young adult group will host a gathering for all young adults in their 20s/30s who wish to attend the concert and reception.

Middletown House Concert Series

Tim Eriksen is a highly regarded singer of American folksong and shapenote music, a songwriter whose work has been covered by Alison Krauss, Joan Baez, and Bonny "Prince" Billy and a multi-instrumentalist with a background in punk rock and South Indian classical music.
With Absence and her sister, a new project with longtime collaborator Peter Irvine, percussion and voice, the duo return to their roots in folk minimalism and Gothic Americana- new and ancient songs of their native New England informed by the wide palette of their other collaborations.
The two are probably best known for their musical contributions to films including the Oscar-winning Cold Mountain and cult horror phenomenon The Outwaters, and as founding members of the anomalous folk-noise outfit Cordelia’s Dad, "the only band to have performed with both Doc Watson and Nirvana." But while echoes of punk-folk and shapenote music abound on Absence and her sister, so does the dissonance and rhythmic complexity of their Bosnian band Žabe I Babe, the deep groove they picked up from collaborators like banjo master Dwight Diller and East African gospel singers the Naamaara sisters, and the love of experimentation and power of repetition celebrated in Terry Riley's In C, the first piece the two ever played together as teenagers. The album also abounds with echoes from Pumpkintown, the duo's New England magic lantern show with painter/projectionist Susan Brearey, named for the birthplace of both Absence Wing and her twin. The place may be imaginary, but the musicians know its sunlit meadows and dark secrets well.$25 general

Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater

Registration is now open for Fall Classes at Oddfellows Playhouse Youth <a href="https://oddfellows.coursestorm.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Theater</a>, located at 128 Washington Street in Middletown! Beginning September 12, classes in theater and <a href="https://oddfellows.coursestorm.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">circus</a> will be offered for toddlers to 20 year olds. Teenagers are invited to audition for our fall mainstage productions. 
 
For our youngest Oddfellows, Saturday Classes feature Acrobabies (ages 15 months - under 3 years with caregiver; 9:15 - 9:55 am); Faerie Tale Theater (ages 3 - 6, 10 -10:55 am); Circrobatics (ages 3 - 6, 11 - 11:55 am); and Circrobalance (ages 5 - 8, noon - 1 pm). Classes start September 12 and continue through a Share Day on November 21 (10 weeks total - no classes October 10). All Saturday classes are taught by Meg Berritta. 
 
After-School classes for ages 6 - 14 begin September 14 and will run for ten weeks this fall, culminating in a “Share Week” November 16 - 19. Most classes run 4:30 -5:30 pm. 
 
Stage I classes for ages 6 - 8 include: Contortion and Flexibility (open to ages 6 - 11); Circus I; 3…2…1…BLAST OFF! (an Outer Space Adventure); and Intro to Shakespeare (Bard for Beginners). 
 
Stage II classes for ages 9 - 11 include: Contortion and Flexibility (open to ages 6 - 11); Circus II+ (open to ages 9 - 14); Musical Theater (open to ages 9-14); and Punches &amp; Pratfalls.
Stage III classes for ages 12 - 14 include: Movement for Actors; Circus II+ (open to ages 9 - 14); Musical Theater (open to ages 9 - 14); and Complete Actor. 

Middletown Public School students may complement their class experience with Oddbridge, an extended day program which provides transport from Middletown schools to the Playhouse, a snack, and supervised arts activities, games and homework help before classes start. This year Oddbridge will run Monday through Thursday, September 14 - November 19, and will resume for a Special Mini Production Intensive Monday - Thursday, November 30 - December 18. The Oddbridge program provides special programs and activities on early dismissal days. 

Teen Repertory Company (ages 14 - 20) will hold auditions for Orestes 2.0 on September 8 and 9, 6 - 9 pm. Orestes 2.0 is a bold, contemporary reimagining of the ancient Greek tragedy, exploring family, revenge, justice, and the fallout of violence. Teens are asked to pre-register for one of the two audition evenings, to arrive on time, and plan to stay for the entire time. Everyone who auditions and commits to the rehearsal and production schedule will be cast in the show. Regular rehearsals will be Mondays and Thursdays, 6 - 9 pm beginning September 14. Performances will be November 12 - 14 and November 20 - 21. 

Teen Circus (ages 12 - 20) will hold auditions for its Fall Mainstage Production on September 15 and 16, 6 - 9 pm. No previous circus experience is required, and everyone who auditions and commits to the rehearsal and production schedule will be cast in the show. The production will bring together acrobatics, juggling, contortion, unicycling, object manipulation and other circus disciplines in an original ensemble performance this winter!

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
