Celebrations For The 70th Anniversary of Iwo Jima

Support Our Greatest Generation!

Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima sponsored by the Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation!

This is a reminder of the events being held to pay tribute to those who fought and died in this historic battle. We hope you will take the time to remember our Veterans and attend one or more of these events. Please see below for details:

Saturday, February 21. 2nd Annual Corporate Sponsorship Reception. 12 noon – 3 p.m. Indian Hill Country Club. The public is invited to attend. $11 WWII Veterans and $16 for all others. Please call Ray at 203-758-3865. Reserve your space IMMEDIATELY. Don’t miss out. Last year’s event was enjoyed by all so plan to be there. Snow date is Feb 22.

Sunday, February 22. Slide Show Presentation about the Battle of Iwo Jima and building of the Iwo Jima Memorial by the Survivors.

New Britain Police Dept. Community Room at 3 p.m. Free event. Parking in garage nearby. Come find out what it is all about and the fantastic things happening there. There will be a WWII memorabilia display and light refreshments. Sponsored by Amy Kirby and the New Britain Historical Society and presented by the Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation.

Monday, February 23. 70th Anniversary of the Flag Raising Ceremony. Takes place at the Iwo Jima Memorial at 10:15 a.m. Ceremony and guest speakers. Some memorabilia shown weather permitting. Free event. Come early for parking and dress accordingly since it takes place outside.

All of February. New Britain Library. Extensive display of the history of the Battle of Iwo Jima, Iwo Jima Survivors, building of the Memorial, the Iwo Jima Foundation and some of our Museum items. The 28-foot long display will only be shown during the month of February so be sure to stop by. Free event.

H&R Block Special Fundraiser now until April 15th. Please consider honoring our WWII Veterans by getting your taxes done by H & R Block this year. For the 3rd year in a row, H&R Block has remained a tremendous sponsor of the National Iwo Jima Memorial in Connecticut, the only memorial built by Survivors of the Battle. H&R Block will make a donation to the Memorial Maintenance Fund for every new person who get their taxes done through them and mentions the Iwo Jima Memorial. The Iwo Jima Memorial is run by the Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation. It is a non-profit, 501c3 all volunteer organization that depends solely on donations to maintain the Memorial and Park. It was started by the Iwo Jima Survivors Association in 1996. Its Mission is to maintain the Memorial, honor those who fought and died there and to educate others about the battle and WWII.
