Arlo Guthrie Concert to Benefit Parmelee Farm
Folk legend is coming to Killingworth on Nov. 13, buy your tickets available now.
If you’ve got gray hair, can remember the Woodstock era, and are particularly hip and cool, you will know whom we are talking about.
Probably best known for his rambling hippy diatribe “Alice’s Restaurant,” Arlo Guthrie and the Boys, his son, Abe (keys), grandson, Krishna (guitar), and long-time friend and drummer, Terry Hall are coming to Killingworth! They’ll be on the Haddam Killingworth Middle School stage Sunday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m., and their mission is to shake loose the days of your youth.
Guthrie calls himself the “happy hippy,” and his repertoire over the years has included “Alabama Bound,” “City of New Orleans,” and “Coming into Los Angeles” – all gems which tip toe around issues like draft evasion, migrant workers, and smuggling dope through customs. Born with a guitar in one hand and a harmonica in the other, this natural-born storyteller delights audiences with hilarious tales and anecdotes woven seamlessly into his performances.

The event is hosted by the Killingworth Lions Club and concert proceeds will support continuing improvements at the Parmelee Farm, including renovation of the pole barn as an open pavilion. The Club’s long tradition of serving the community extends back 40 years, and has donated more than $500,000 to projects close to home, as well as worldwide, in their efforts to fight blindness.
In the past two years, the local Lions have hosted the legendary stars Judy Collins and Richie Havens who both performed to sold- out crowds.
