B Squad Takes on HK

The B Squad welcomed a second opportunity to square off against reigning Salamone Cup winning H/K Cougars. Even though the teams had just met two weeks prior the Falcons were anxious to meet the Cougars again in front of their fans at home within the safe confines of Devil Field. The captains this week for the Falcons were Carter Proto, Trevor Smith, Giovanni Aparo, Colin Sheehy & Derek Grant. In addition our honorary captains who were grandparents nominated by the team were Paul DelGobbo (grandson to Tucker Carroll), Gabe Bizzario (grandson to Anthony BIzzario) and Joe& Joy Boone (grandparents to Derek Grant). The Grandparents that were selected were there to represent all grandparents who provide such great support for all of us both on and off the all athletic fields.

The Falcons did not win the toss and kicked off the football deep into Cougar territory where the Cougar return team opened the game with a tremendous return for the 1st score of the game. The Falcon offense took the ball and focused on their power running game moving the ball on successive off tackle running plays. As the first series stalled near midfield the Falcons elected to punt on 4th and 5. While the kicking game has been a great asset so far for the Falcons, the Cougars were able to put another great return play together as they again crossed the Falcon goal line. The Falcons again returned to Cougar kickoff successfully to begin their second series key blocks were made by Quinn Reardon, Bryce Fleck & Giulio Guifridda as the power game seemed to be making some headway. Both series showed some great running by Derek Grant & Colin Sheehy both around the end and over the tackle over box. The Falcons attempted a 4 and short play but turned the ball back over to the Cougars on downs. The Cougars were able to find the end zone again on a halfback option pass which caught the Falcons a bit by surprise.

As the second half began the Falcons found themselves on the short side of the scoreboard but not short in the pride department. The Falcons made a commitment to a better 2nd half and that is what they delivered. The defense dug in and did not let but more than 3 first downs for the Cougar offense in the 2ndhalf. Great play across the Falcon front line by Carter Proto & Bobby Huscher along with great contain work by Anthony Santangello and Alex Case had the Cougar team scratching their head. The momentum also feed right into the offense as Derek Grant & Quinn Reardon found running lanes behind Nevin Moore & Jake Toth. The Falcons would find the end zone towards the end of the 3rd quarter on a five yard run by Quinn Reardon. The Falcons had a big 2nd half and as a result have a lot to carry with them into next week’s practice as they get ready for their first away game against Berlin. Stay tuned Falcon faithful as the team continues into week three.
