B Squad Travels to take on Canton Warriors

Captains for the Falcons this week were Trevor Smith, Carter Proto, Bobby Huscher, Derek Grant & Colin Sheehy. It was a great Sunny day for the both teams as captains from each team met for the coin toss. The Warriors won the toss and elected to receive the football. The Warriors got the football on their 40 yard line and went to work in the balanced tight end wing formation. The Warrior repeatedly attacked the middle and off tackle areas of the Falcon defense with their run game. The drive lasted over 5 minutes and resulted in 1st Warriors touchdown.

The Warriors attempted an onside kick and subsequently recovered the ball which put the Falcon defense back on the field. The Warrior offense again went to work in similar fashion from their previous series. In addition to the running game the Warriors opted to test the Falcon secondary with a deep pass play that was successful and lead to a second Warrior touchdown. As the Falcons found themselves down two scores in the first half early of the game, they were anxious to get a shot with their offense so after successfully receiving the kickoff. The Falcons took over on their 40 yard line and began a ground attack of their own which showed some early promise getting a couple of 1st downs and getting into the Warrior end of the field. However the drive stalled for the Falcons and with a turnover based on downs the Warrior offense came back on the field. The defense unfortunately been on the field a long time during the half and was not successful keeping the Warriors out of the end zone as they scored two more times before half time.

The Falcons knew they would get the ball to start the second half so the team and coaches spent the halftime aligning on how they would start on offense. Even though the Falcons were down on the scoreboard they were not down in spirit. After returning the  2nd half kickoff back to midfield the Falcon offense went right to work with great blocking from Guilio Guiffirda, Bobby Huscher, Jake Toth and Colin Sheehy. The Falcon runners Derek Grant and Trevor Smith found some great running lanes behind the tackle over offense. A holding penalty during the drive placed the Falcons in a 3rd and long situation that they could not recover to get another 1st down. The results of that drive instilled a great deal of confidence for when the offense would got their next opportunity. The Falcon defense fed off of the momentum from the offense and during the 1st play for the Warriors offense tackled the ball carrier and created a fumble which Bryce Fleck recovered. As the Falcon offense began their second series they used a combination of tackle over formation and their spread look to try and stretch the Warrior defense out. The Falcons had some great efforts from Quinn Reardon both running and blocking as they moved down inside the Warrior’s ten yard line. During the next two plays Colin Sheehy would cross the goal line and score his first touchdown for the season. A great option run play executed by Derek Grant added the extra point and closed the gap on the scoreboard.

The Warriors went back to work on offense and again the Falcon Defense was there to not only prevent movement but cause the 2nd turnover of the day. A fumble recovery by Bobby Huscher led to another opportunity for the Falcon Offense. After 2 plays out their Falcon Spread formation,  Anthony Santagello broke over the middle on a trap play for a 40 yard rushing touchdown which was also his first touchdown for the season.

The Falcons got a great kickoff from Bryce Fleck and with the hustle from the rest of the coverage team pinned the Warriors deep into their own territory. The Falcon Defense was able to limit the Warriors to no more than six yards so based on field position the Warriors were forced to punt. Even though there was less than 2 minutes in the game the Falcons were in the middle of the field ready to try and score again. After a series of running plays Derek Grant was able to break around the right side for the Falcons and find the end zone for the third time during the game and second half. As the final seconds ticked away the Falcons knew they gave a great effort and played a tremendous second half. The final score was 34-19 in favor of the Warriors but Falcons B Squad took another great step in their journey of Believing & Achieving. Believing in each other to work as a team and achieving results together. Thanks to Coach Painter & Coach Murphy as well as the cheerleading squad for their great support this week. We will be on road next week in Sage Park to meet the 2nd squad for Berlin so come out and support both our girls and boys.
