Health & Fitness

Back In My Running Shoes!!

I am officially registered for my yearly Half Marathon.

I was notified last December of  running  2 free entries in  The Biggest loser Half Marathon  in Panama Beach, FL the end of  that month.  I declined, as I hadn't been running at all since I completed the Hartford Half  a couple of  months prior, and I was not in  any position to purchase airfare and hotel required to  participate.  Graciously, The Biggest Loser Race/Walk allowed my an entry into  any other event in  2014.  Then life got in  the way.
The past few months, I have been juggling 3-4 part time jobs to  keep  afloat.  Running went by the wayside, as I started my Qivana home-based business, as well as agree to  do 2 days of Medical Marketing for my current healthcare company.  I am teaching at Durham Fitness once a week, and carry a 4-6 patient caseload a week, plus 2- 12 referrals per month for blood home monitoring training.
I realized I never redeemed my race entries.  The Washington Trail races came and went.  I decided I need to  commit to  a half marathon, so  my 16 year old and I decided on The Half Marathon in Buffalo, NY on  Labor Day weekend.  It was the only one that we have adequate time to  train for, as well as NOT requiring airfare.  Our whole family was at the GO FAR GO FAST races this weekend.  Erin  assisted her 4 year old brother in  the Bean Race, and Elizabeth ran the Half Mile.
I have been volunteering at Brewster School  with the kindergarteners on their Go Far day each week.  To  see these kids run Saturday was inspiring.  My son  has not taken off his finisher's medal since Saturday.  I loved watching the teens assist the younger ones: the preschoolers in  their first race ever holding their hands and encouraging them to  finish.  The teens and adult volunteers either ran beside the  elementary and middle schoolers, or shouted their names while holding handmade posters along the route.  It was a great day.
Because of GO FAR, I not only redeemed my two  free entries for Erin  and myself, I registered my two  little ones for the 1 mile Biggest Loser  Kids Fun Run.  Elizabeth ran it in  Killington, VT as part of  the 15K myself and Erin  completed. (Erin also  won her age category at that race).  Running had become a family affair, and we plan on  making the Buffalo races part of  a nice long holiday weekend for us all.  We will be fundraising for the Kid's Fit Foundation, sponsor of  the kid's Fun Run.  The Foundation  provides funds for youth fitness programs, like GO FAR.  I will post our website throughout the summer and look forward to  our towns supporting our fundraising goals.
