Blumenthal to Visit Job Seekers at Powder Ridge Saturday

A job fair at Powder Ridge ski area this weekend is expected to draw hundreds of job-seekers, as well as at least one high-ranking public official.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal has announced that he plans to visit Middlefield on Saturday during Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort's job fair which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Senator is scheduled to visit at 11 a.m.

“Powder Ridge is looking for a number of highly qualified professionals to deliver an unforgettable experience to visitors,” Sean Hayes, Powder Ridge CEO, said in a recent press release about the job fair. “We are dedicated to serving the community and will create more than 200 jobs that support local economic development.”

Hayes has led Powder Ridge's "resurrection" since he and a group of investors bought the property from the Town of Middlefield last summer.

This week, Hayes gave a brief update of the property during a meeting of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce's Durham-Middlefield division.

"It's coming along very nicely," he said.

"The buildings are being restored. The lodge actually now looks like a lodge again. The lifts have all been restored. We hope to have all the trails open by this winter."

Powder Ridge recently announced the hiring of chef Kevin Cottle, a locally-renowned chef who finished runner-up on the sixth season of Hell's Kitchen, the popular FOX reality cooking series featuring Gordon Ramsay.

Positions available at Powder Ridge include ski instructors, ski patrol, lift attendants, rental staff, ticket agents, cafeteria staff, snow making and grooming crew and operations and maintenance personnel.

Some of the jobs will begin as soon as Nov. 1, according to the company.
