One way I know of to target your real estate search is by getting to know about available land in a particular town. When you search for a community in which much of the land has already been developed or has been preserved as Land Trust property or Protected Green Spaces, you can safeguard a bit against buying a home in a town that may experience unchecked growth. And let’s face it, some people want their town population to stay low. Population and protected green spaces can directly impact lifestyle and community dynamics.

A number of my friends chose to buy in Durham and Middlefield because of the amount of Open Space they offer. Check out the Existing Open Space Map of Durham, and get a load of all the green. It’s a beautiful thing. But we are also lucky enough to have our very own state park that is a destination unto itself. Click the link to view a detailed trail map for Millers Pond State Park.
