Coginchaug Cheerleaders Place 3rd & 2nd at NECA Open Championship

Despite unexpected music failure Coginchaug Cheerleaders still take home a 3rd place trophy.

Over the past several months the Coginchaug Cheerleaders have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming New England Cheerleading Association Open Championship.

This tight knit and spirited group of cheerleaders were early risers Saturday morning after a late night cheering for the Coginchaug girls basketball team who ended their season after the 2nd round of the state basketball tournament against Notre Dame-Fairfield.

Hair, make-up, polished shoes, stretching, warm-up, prayer and finally 1:34 p.m. arrives, and they take the floor full of spirit blasting through the midpoint of their routine when the music unexpectedly stops.  Almost effortlessly, the cheerleaders pull off a seemless emergency transition of counting out loud.

Despite the unexpected music failure, they still took home a 3rd place trophy.

The final hurdle of the day was "Top Gun" where Coginchaug's stunt team of 5 would compete against several other teams.  During Top Gun, a team of 5 performs a quick stunt routine.  The teams are encouraged to be creative with their attire.
