Mercy Seniors End Season and Careers on Top

Mercy Tigers win the state basketball championship in style

Heart. Grit. Perseverance. These are just some of the words to best describe this year's Mercy High School basketball team. In each of the past three seasons, Mercy had been in the Class LL state championship only to lose by a total of 7 points combined. However, this years team was different. From the beginning of the season they played with the goal of not only getting back to the state championship but winning it. On Saturday night, in front of 5,000+ loud fans they faced a familiar team in Laurelton Hall. With 3.8 seconds to go in the game, down by 2 points, senior Sheena Landy made an incredible full-court pass that went to Cassie Santoro and she passed it off to Maria Weselyj who made the unbelievable three pointer at the buzzer to give Mercy its long awaited and well deserved state championship.
