Sarah' Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Sarah's Key follows an American journalist's present-day investigation into theround-up of French Jews by French police in Nazi occupied Paris, who were then shipped by rail to death camps. It tells the harrowing story of a young girl's experiences during these events and her rescue by a French farmer and his family who raise her as their own.

I loved the character of Sarah, who was brave and loyal. The sense of history was strong, and informative about these lesser known actions of the Nazis.

Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Narrator Hazel Grace Lancaster, is a sixteen-year-old girl with terminal cancer. She was pulled out of school at thirteen and rarely socializes with people her age. After being diagnosed with clinical depression, she joins support group for children with cancer where she meets Augustus Waters. Hazel introduces Augustus to her favorite novel, the fictional Peter Van Houten's An Imperial Affliction, about another girl with cancer who nevertheless lives a good life.

An unusual coming-of-age novel that demonstartes that even kids facing death have the same need to rebel, explore and find their own way. Well written, sad and heartwarming I highly recommend this book.
