The 2026 Durham Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 25th. This year we are honoring 250 years of sacrifice. The parade will step off at 9:15AM at the corner of Haddam Quarter Road and Main Street, and then continue down Main Street to the Durham Town Green. Parade participants should assemble at the corner of Main Street and Haddam Quarter Road between 8:15 and 8:30. The parade will take place rain or shine.
Immediately following the parade there will be a ceremony at the Town Green honoring our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen.

Come browse a wide variety of items, discover great deals, and enjoy a lively morning of community connection. Interested in selling? Individual spots are available for just $20, an easy and fun way to clear out gently used items or share your crafts with others. Tag sale donations may be dropped off and set up in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, May 6; Thursday, May 7; and Friday, May 8 from 2:00–6:00 PM. If those times are not convenient, items may also be dropped off on Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8 during our church office hours, from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM. <h3>DUE TO FORECASTED WEATHER FOR SATURDAY, MAY 9TH, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO SUNDAY, MAY 10TH FROM 12 PM - 3 PM. </h3><h3>It’s a family-friendly Drum Circle at the Apple Barrel Farm Market on Sunday, May 10th, 12 PM - 3 PM.</h3>
Pop a seat and strike a drumbeat at this unique, hands-on community experience with percussionist, Ken Parker. The relaxing, rhythmic sounds of the drumbeat will inspire you to dance a little and shake it up! The event will be held outside on the grass in the lower gravel lot. In the event of rain, the event will be postponed.
Bring your own drums and shakers, blanket or chair.&nbsp; No experience necessary!The event is free to attend, and run by Ken Parker ~ donations are appreciated.
<h3>What is a Drumming Circle?</h3>
A drumming circle, sometimes called a rhythm circle, is a group of people who gather to make music with percussion instruments. The format is free-form, without a firm beginning or end to the music. Players in drum circles are all on equal playing ground, and there are no wrong notes. They listen to what others are playing and join in. It's not about perfection but rather participation.
Drum circles have ancient roots in cultures with strong drumming traditions, Asia and Africa, and among shamanistic practices of Native American cultures. All kinds of drums have evolved over time, and many of them are hand-drums, played by hitting the stretched hide on the drum with the palm or fingers. Many drum circle participants play hand drums but others might use small hand-held percussions like bells, shakers, and rattles.

Oddfellows Playhouse Teen Repertory Company presents the world premiere of&nbsp;Mel Chomsky's History of the World May 14 - 23 in Middletown.Mel Chomsky’s History of the World is an original comedy written and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Dic Wheeler. This high-energy play blends theater, circus, and Commedia dell’Arte. Beginning in Melilli, Sicily in 1626, three performers are swept into a wild time-travel adventure led by a dead philosopher-comedian, Mel Chomsky, journeying from Melilli to Mattabasset, ancient Greece, the American Revolution and beyond. It’s a bold, slapstick ride through history that explores the ongoing tension between democracy and authoritarianism.
Writer/director Wheeler, who will be leaving the Playhouse in June, says about the production: “I wanted my final show at Oddfellows to celebrate my life-long love of physical comedy, Commedia and circus, but also be a commentary about the current state of the world. The play combines the broad comedy of Mel Brooks with the world view of Noam Chomsky, throwing in a dollop of Dr. Who. The cast includes familiar characters like Socrates, George Washington, Marie Antoinette and Pope Leo X, plus many others throughout time and space, but at the heart are three archetypes of Commedia - the Miser Pantalone, the hungry servant Arlecchino, and his love and protector Colombina - all led by their tour guide Mel Chomsky.”Mel Chomsky's History of the World Performances will be at 7 pm on May 14, 15, 16, 22 and 23 and 2 pm on May 23. Mel Chomsky’s History of the World contains strong language and ridiculous situations.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for kids and students. “Big Hearted Oddfellow” tickets are available for $30 for anyone who really loves and values theater and its impact on the lives of young people. May 14 at 7 pm&nbsp; is a “Pay What You Can” Preview.
