Classical NightOut and Family Musical Workshop

Don't miss this weekend's great event sponsored by The Arts Center at Killingworth.

Join the Arts Center Killingworth for an evening of sultry classical music at on Saturday, Nov. 19 (7:30pm) with the New York-based Geller-Anderson Duo.

Experience the triumphant opening of Beethoven’s Sonata No.1 in D Major, Gershwin’s classic Porgy and Bess, Paul Schoenfield’s jazzy Four Souvenirs, and top off the evening with the delicate beauty of Nocturne by Lili Boulanger. Children, teens and adults are all invited to enjoy this special night of music as well as the dessert reception immediately following the concert.

Described as “a consummate artist who performs with convincing vigor and passion,” violinist Sarah E. Geller has performed to critical acclaim in renowned venues such as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, where she made her solo recital debut as a winner of the Artists’ International Special Presentation Award.  Beloved by listeners from coast to coast, Geller draws in sold-out audiences with her rich sound and innate ability to communicate with a compelling, yet gentle touch. As New York Concert Review noted, Ms. Geller’s music “revels in sunny, carefree high spirits” coupled with the “simple, poised, confident stage presence of a seasoned performer.”

Taiwan native and pianist Wenhan Anderson has performed with numerous chamber ensembles in New York since 2001, including performances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Town Hall, and Queens College Musical Theater.  She has appeared internationally including at the prestigious Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy.

In addition to being consummate performers, both musicians are dedicated to sharing their skill and passion with others – particularly children.  Geller became known in her native Maine for an exceptional ability to inspire young musicians.  She brings that ability to her Suzuki studio in New York and to her students at The School for Strings (SFS) where she received Suzuki certification and served as director and head violin teacher for a decade at “SFS at PS116,” an outreach Suzuki program.

Ms. Anderson serves as a staff accompanist at both the Manhattan School of Music and the Diller-Quaile School of Music. She is a faculty member at the MSM String Festival and Summer Music Camp. In addition, she is a founding member of MusicWorks school in New Canaan, Connecticut which offers lessons to students of all ages.

With such skill and passion for teaching, the entire family can experience the Duo’s virtuosity prior to the Classical NightOut concert at a same-day afternoon Family Musical Workshop. Bring the children and teens and discover how the music of the Geller-Anderson Duo makes you feel. What colors and shapes do you see? What words come to mind?  In addition to being part of the music, families can draw shapes and sketches to take home a tangible souvenir of this unusual creative experience.  The Workshop with the Duo is held between 4:30-5:30pm and is $5 per family.
