Connecticut Lost 3,900 Jobs In August
It's the second month in a row of job losses in the state.

HARTFORD, CT — Preliminary statistics show that Connecticut had a net loss of 3,900 jobs in August. Its the second month in a row that the state lost jobs.
July had a loss of 1,100. The state's unemployment rate dropped .2 percent to 4.8 percent in August, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. The number of the state's unemployed fell by 4,300 while the number of residents employed also fell by 5,600.
"August’s decline of 3,900 payroll jobs leaves the three-month average job gain in Connecticut nearly flat,”said Andy Condon, Director of the Office of Research. “Nevertheless, due to a decline in the state’s labor force, the unemployment rate fell to 4.8 percent."

Over the course of the year Connecticut has added a net of 6,000 new jobs. The state has recovered 78.1 percent of the 119,100 jobs lost in the Great Recession. The private sector has regained 96.7 percent of jobs lost to the recession while the government supersector has lost a total of 22,400 jobs since the recession began.
