Dear Walk Against Hunger Team Captains

For The Amazing Grace Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen

Dear Team Captains,

I’m so happy to be writing you as we begin organizing for the 2016 Walk Against Hunger fundraiser for St. Vincent de Paul Middletown. Whether you are a returning Team Captain from a previous year, or a new captain for 2016, the Leadership Committee is excited to be working with you. We also want to let you know that we sincerely appreciate your commitment to feeding hungry people.

Food insecurity continues to impact the lives of too many people in the greater Middletown area. The Amazing Grace Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen are currently providing approximately 1,000 nutritious meals per day. These programs would not happen without the support of local organizations, individuals and volunteers who donate food, time, and money. The funds for the Walk will help us to keep pace with the demand for food during the summer months when food is scarce and monetary donations decline.

This year the Walk will be held on Sunday May 1st at Liam E. McGee Memorial Park (formerly Hartbeat Park) in Hartford. St. Vincent de Paul will provide free, bright orange T-shirts to the first 400 walkers. Foodshare will again offer recognition prizes for funds raised. Free event parking is provided at the Hartford Insurance lot at 690 Asylum Avenue. Walkers should arrive by 1 PM on May 1 for registration and entertainment. The walk steps off, rain or shine at 2 PM.

Plan to come to one training session for Team Captains which will be held at South Fire Station on Randolph Road, Middletown (dates TBA). The program will last for approximately one hour. At that time, we will distribute the materials you will need for your team and explain in detail the sign-up process. If you would like your materials earlier, please contact Jessica Broderick at 860-759-5811 or jess@svdmiddletown.org.
